Collection: Big Zee

Standing at 6 foot 9, Chara is the tallest ever to play in the NHL, earning him the nickname "Big Zee". During his first year in Ottawa, after being during the 2001 NHL Entry Draft as part of a deal Alexei Yashin, Chara turned into a bona fide two-way defenceman.

The following year, Chara blossomed into an elite NHL defenceman, earning his first All-Star appearance. In his third year in the capital, Chara earned his first Norris Trophy nomination.

Ottawa could not come to terms on a new contract with Big Zee, he became an unrestricted free agent at the end of 2005-06 season, signing with the Boston Bruins. Chara's star continued to climb, becoming one of the league's top defencemen.

Zee was the Bruins' captain for all of his fourteen seasons in Boston, (2006 to 2020), leading them to the Stanley Cup finals in 2011, 2013 and 2019.
